mix CD 2015, part one

The track list for the first 2015 mix CD fell into place ridiculously quick and easily (it was done by year's end). It still may change depending on how the second CD comes together, but this collection is pretty solid. Same as before, 2015 is set to be a double CD collection of predominantly K-pop girl groups.

Compiling the second CD looks like it's going to be a pain. Out of the candidates for the second CD mix, there are very few obvious segues (actually none), and key tracks like opening and closer or even where a lot of the tracks belong on a mix are elusive. Hey, I put a lot of thought into mix CD track order!

At least all but one track of the first CD has a YouTube video that's likely not going to be deleted (no dead links). I'll upload all the audio tracks to the cloud once the second mix is finished.

2014 mix CDs

Opening with T-ara was a surprise, but it was one of those instances when once the thought was there, it became perfect. The first Mamamoo song and the CLC were originally swapped. The CLC worked in both positions while the Mamamoo wasn't perfect in either, but worked better preceding the AoA song (Um Oh Ah Yeah leading into "Ah Yeah!").

Some things were contrived, but worked, like the back-to-back Park Bo Ram and Tahiti both starting with ring tones, and the Minah and Nine Muses both starting with quarter note hits (the Nine Muses video cleverly self-directed and comprised of Instagram uploaded clips). Then, by my estimation, a lot of solid tracks easily fitting where they should go.

If the Urban Zakapa track had been released this year, I wouldn't have known it. Cable TV channels in Taiwan are annoying in that they're subject to change at the turn of the year. On New Year's Day, I lost Sundance Channel and the one dedicated Korean channel I had left. It was on that channel that I heard the Urban Zakapa track in the background between programs and got sucked into the groove.

The Kisum track could have gone elsewhere, but I wanted to put it in an esteemed position (the penultimate, which is just less of opening and closing tracks). Ironically, it's a heart-felt dedication to all mothers, which is something I don't personally feel.

The video is from the filming of a Korean TV rap competition show and is notable for the reactions of the other contestants to the song. Aside from her direct stage-side competitor, who reasonably remains focused, the others in the back room range progressively from getting their attention to excitement to being genuinely moved.

Even if I don't feel anything like this towards my own mother, many people don't, I understand the sentiment and the meaning of the importance of the mother concept. When my sister-in-law mentioned her mother's decline in health and asked about healing energy, I sent her this video and whatever emotion she felt from it, she should send to her mother as healing energy.

The most moving line from mother to daughter being "You're my girl!".
